National Car Rental Tips:
Join the Emerald Club. This is Nationals free membership program. It is marketed to business travelers, but it is a great program for vacations/family travel. Image grabbing your luggage, hopping a tram or bus, arriving at the  rental car lot, and picking any car on in the class reserve. And for just a bit more, reserve a midsized car, and  pick any car on the Emerald Aisle. You will at least have a midsized car, but more often than not, you will find very new mid - full sized cars, crossovers, and minivans.  cars many with less than 2000 miles, my past 4 rentals had less than 100. Most of the cars offer some type of hands free calling, and satellite radio without an extra charge. Besides, it is nice to sit in different cars, confirm comfort, style, and extras before throwing the luggage in the trunk and driving off.

Emerald Club membership: Choice. Speed. Privilege.

Please note, depending on when you travel the selection can be a bit low, but for the most part, I just pick a car, and drive to the gate. At the gate, you will hand over you license, credit card and the paperwork from the car, confirm the rental, decline the gas, grab your card and license and head out of the lot. My last rental at SFO, rental counters were so packed, we had to squeeze off the train. All of the National customer headed straight for the stairs/elevators and were out of the parking deck within 15 minutes. I bet most of the other renters will still waiting on cars. I once tried renting through another (yellow & black logo) company, and had to wait 75 minutes for a car.  That was a great way to kick off a family vacation.
